When Poppy and Leo were 6 months we headed down to Devon and found that a holiday was possible if not entirely relaxing. At least they weren’t moving which meant we didn’t have to worry about stairgates, dangerous objects, swimming pools or ponds accessible from where we were staying.
We self catered and filled the car up then we had to take everything at a slow pace. Unfortunately the beach wasn’t too successful – more something to eat than to play with.

We stayed in a chalet at a French campsite, Soleil Plage, in the Dordorgne, when Leo and Poppy were two and a half years old and it was mostly a success.
Best bits were:-
Swimming pool – so good to be able to have a swim everyday. It was heated and there was an excellent baby pool. Wished we’d taken more swimming toys like a floating car.
Beautiful location – going out for dinner wasn’t an option but it was good to have dinner and a glass of wine on our veranda as the sun set.
Lots to see – lots of places to see within 30 mins. Poppy and Leo enjoyed several of the markets, gardens and castles.
Play areas – these were mostly aimed at slightly older children and a year ago it would have been very stressful but they were just about sensible and cautious enough.

Peckham Rye Cafe is great as long as your not planning on taking too many double buggies inside. It’s very child friendly and there are lots of high chairs.

Having fun in rocker
This rocker was loved by my two, particularly my son. From 8 months to 18 months they enjoyed, at least half an hour a day, fiddling and rocking. Ours was secondhand so there were no flashing lights or sounds but that didn’t matter.
